Meduni's latest activity in Armenia, Yerevan

We are excited to share some insights on Meduni’s latest activity in Armenia, Yerevan.

For several months Meduni was investing its all efforts and resources in this project. The idea was to create experience sharing and training opportunities for oncologists of the Armenian National Center of Oncology named after V.A. Fanarjian as well as introduce them to new possibilities in colorectal cancer screening.

In August 2021, Founder and Executive Director of Meduni UMSI - Vaughn Martirosyan with one of the best Colorectal surgeons in the USA - Gennaro LaBella visited Armenia to fulfill the purpose.

Within a month Dr. LaBella operated on 12 patients with colorectal cancer, making them completely cancer-free.

During that period Dr. Labella held several edifying trainings for the oncology specialists in Armenia, sharing the latest innovations in colorectal cancer screening.

On August 27, a conference was held dedicated to the possibilities of the prevention of colorectal cancer via cancer screening. The conference was followed by “Prevention is Cure” Gala event, with the participation of honorable guests RA Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan, High Commissioner of Diaspora Affairs of Armenia Zareh Sinanyan, first deputy director of public health of the Promise Armenian Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles and advisor to the RA Minister of Health Shant Shekherdimian, American-Armenian doctor Armen Aboulian, and others.

Meduni UMSI wants to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone involved in this project.
